An Experiment In Slow Motion (Max Payne Dives)

An Experiment In Slow Motion (Max Payne Dives) Tube. Duration : 1.38 Mins.

So the Canon EOS 550D/T2i has a 60 fps setting, which is great for doing slow-mo shots. Realising that I've never actually tried it out, we decided to do some Max Payne-style dives. Trust me, it's harder than it looks. To get some silky-smooth slow mo with the help of AE, grab your camera and follow these steps: 1) Set it to 60 fps (or higher if your camera supports it). 2) Adjust aperture, shutter speed and ISO appropriately. Keep in mind that under fluorescent lights you may see some flickering. If that happens, adjust your shutter speed until you find a 'sweet spot' that is in sync with the frequency of the flickering, thereby eliminating it. 3) In After Effects, import your footage then right click - Interpret Footage - Main - Conform to frame rate 23.976 (the typical cinematic frame rate). I did however use an AE plugin called Twixtor to further slow down the footage. You might see some weird wavey-ness in some shots and that's because Twixtor is trying to draw frames that aren't really there. I won't go too much into technical details.
